 who said this?
"The US is a great place to invent and develop things, but it is not a good place to get a bike made. Sad, but true.If we had gone to the next step to keep manufacturing in the US, which is do it ourselves, then all our energy would be spent on who didn't show up for work that day or what machine is down.

"Taiwan bike manufacturing is world class, there are very well equipped factories that do just that, make bikes start to finish. There are no factories like that here because there is better work to be had in aerospace, auto and military jobs. Trying to make bikes in the US is also a total piecemeal approach – one company to make the parts, another to weld, another to heat-treat and so on. To do it here your expertise needs to be logistics, not damping rates or frame geometry."

Actually, I did find the correct answer. All you have to do is Google the phrase "not damping rates or frame geometry" and you, too, can read the sordid tale of a fine custom builder lured by filthy lucre over to the Dark Side of mass manufacture.

actually Paul Turner said that. The guy who founded Rock Shox. As a owner of a Santa Cruz and Intense,
Rob Roskoff may be headed that way but for now Jeff Steber still makes it all here.

Bottom line is, this place was hi-jacked a while back and most of the people that had posted regularly got tired of seeing the same B.S. from the same people. I admit, I like to play around here every so often, but there is a fine line between having fun and being a complete idiot.....Goosey...

you have proof of this fact FFW or are you just assuming that more ppl are riding than ever. ever go to the retail bicycle sales sites and notice the dropped in mountain bike sales as opposed to 10 years ago. there has been a steady decline of mountain sales (hardtails, lower end f/s bikes under $1000)...I'd do some research before blowing yer hot air outta yer butt

Where do you come up with this stuff? Steady decline? Where do you get your info? Bicycle sales for 2006 were higher than they were 10 years ago, and mountain bikes continue to be the largest portion of the bicycle market. Everything you post is a drunken delusional fabrication that you pull straight out of your @$$, seemingly so you sound smart or insightful, neither of which is remotely true. You posted your comparison of this site to marriage. On what basis did you come up with that? Did you personally interview all of the old regulars here? What right do you even have to compare anything to marriage, when you've never even had sex that you didn't have to pay for?

Click the link below if you want actual industry data instead of just making stuff up. Tool.

                      you posted a site which
listed as below 2006 mtn sales as 28.5 opposed to 2004's 32.0
                      I think 32.0 is higher than 28.5

You really are an idiot. If you read closer, those numbers are unit percentages, not dollars or number of units. Also, those numbers are only for the last 3 years. Your comment was how there are less mountain bike sales now than 10 years ago, and how there has been a steady decline since. Wrong. The only number that is declining by any significant amount is non-suspension MTBs. Everything else is, for the most part, flat, except for full-suspension bikes, which actually increased in 2006.

This is market share by percentage of total dollars for 2004-2006:

                      Mountain Front Susp. 26.56 26.24 25.61
                      Comfort 18.03 14.44 11.7
                      Road/700C 16.4 20.79 28.32
                      Hybrid/Cross 9.89 12.87 10.95
                      Mountain Full Susp. 9.67 8.87 9.57
                      Freestyle 5.56 4.42 3.78
                      Mountain No Susp. 3.12 1.64 0.41
                      Youth 20" 2.6 2.41 2.24
                      Youth 24" 2.51 2.75 2.23
                      BMX 1.98 1.38 0.97
                      Youth 19" and below 1.76 1.72 1.36
                      Cruiser 1.57 1.9 2.38

This is annual sales for all bicycle types in millions of units:

                      2006 18.2
                      2005 19.8
                      2004 18.3
                      2003 18.5
                      2002 19.5
                      2001 16.7
                      2000 20.9
                      1999 17.5
                      1998 15.8
                      1997 15.2
                      1996 15.4

At best, the bicycle market, including MTBs, has been up and down over the last 10 years. My only point is that here is some easily found data on the subject. You throw all kinds of lame comments and comparisons out there with no data and no source. If there is evidence of this steady decline, let's see your proof. Back up your comments or crawl back in your hole.

    How about this one:

The only controls available to those on board were two push-buttons on the center post of the cabin—one labeled on and one labeled off. The on button simply started a flight from Mars. The off button connected to nothing. It was installed at the insistence of the Martian mental-health experts, who said that human beings were always happier with machinery they thought they could turn off.

Howard said there's only one place I know
Sam said tell me quick man I got to run
Ol' Howard just pointed with his gun
And said that way down on Highway 61.

Well Mack the Finger said to Louie the King
I got forty red white and blue shoe strings
And a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where I can get rid of these things
And Louie the King said let me think for a minute son
And he said yes I think it can be easily done
Just take everything down to Highway 61.

Now the fifth daughter on the twelfth night
Told the first father that things weren't right
My complexion she said is much too white
He said come here and step into the light he says hmm you're right
Let me tell the second mother this has been done
But the second mother was with the seventh son
And they were both out on Highway 61.

Now the rovin' gambler he was very bored
He was tryin' to create a next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
He said I never engaged in this kind of thing before
But yes I think it can be very easily done
We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun
And have it on Highway 61.
