Nice bike for a 'first-time' choice. You're not spending a lot of dough to get into it and you'll have lots of fun riding it. The hardtail Stumpy's are fast, quick-handling bikes, so take it easy on the downhills till you get used to the handling. It would be well worth your while to get a tune-up on the bike at a local bike shop as well. Once you're comfortable with the bike, consider going clipless and getting a good pair of cycling shoes. That goes for the clothing too. Good shorts and a jersey. Add a hydration pack, cause it'll heat up eventually. For now, the Specialized water bottles can't be beat. For the longer rides, put something besides water in the bottles, to replace minerals and salts that you may sweat out. It's a great sport. Remember, it ALWAYS hurts going up the hills, it'll just be more bearable. My motto is 'Suffer and suffer well..." Posted by STP a 48 year old Racer riding a K2 Razorpiggie from P'Dale on 04/19/07
