My wife bought me a Next brand from Walmart and I haven't ridden a bike since before the 10 speeds. I need an education. Does a 10 speed have gearing that allows the gearing to help you on the top end while the Mountain bike concentrates on the low end of the gearing? I put this bike in the lowest combination and I can,t go up a slight grade. It has the nobbie tires and 21 gears but I want to do something besides go down hill. Am I just to out of shape and too old? Is this thing what is called a mountain bike?

Here is how it works. Front gears(chainrings),back gears(cogs). The bigger the chainring the faster you go, but you have less power. The bigger the cog(rear) the more power you have, but the slower you go. So to go UP a hill shift to the middle or smallest chainring(front), shift to the largest cog(rear). You will learn what you need with experience. Running small chainring and large cog, you can almost climb a telephone pole. Big chainring and small cog turn you into a rocket.........never ride over your ability.......

I work for walmart and if you want to by a bike to ride thats styled well and rides good try a Next yes its is a walmart brand bike but if you look at the price for what your buying its not bad your not going to take it to a race its not built for that type of abuse but trust me it will hold up well riding on trails and bike paths you can spend a lot of money on bikes but I assemble them there not a bad bike for the money you spend.

Tim, I bought the Next brand bike from Wall-Mart for my son for Christmas. He used it 3 times and the chain broke. I found the front set of gears were defectictive from a bad stamp press. The gears have double stamp marks that slice the chain in half. No offense Tim, if you assemble these bikes you should have seen this trash quality on other bikes. I found another disapointed customer and when i checked his sons bike I found the same defect. Please contact me if you can help me with the replacement of the front set of gears and the chain. Please advise Wall Mart that the Next Bike is "Cheap" but does not reflect Wall Mart quality.

        Hey,
I also purchased a Next brand bike and had to take not one but 2 of them back. the first had a defective rear gear assembly...the gears themselves kept slipping .they would spin, the wheel wouldn't. the next one i took back because the break assembly didn't work at all.the third one only lasted 3 months the the pedal assembly flew apart while i was riding it...on a paved road.it was unrepairable the whole assembly fell apart. I wouldn't recommend purchasing one.
        i know i won't again.

The Next Brand bicycles are manufactured by Dynacraft (www.dynacraftbikes.com) and sold in Walmart. They come with a 24 month warranty that would have covered most of the problems mentioned except for the untrained assembly issues. Give them a call

My name is Kevin. I bought a Next mountain bike and I had it for 2 years until it got stollen just the other day. I put over 2,600 miles on it riding back and forth to work. I know this because I bought an odometer. Anyway I think that you will always find your bikes that have problems just like buying a car. I think that you should give Next a chance for the money. I am buying another Next bicycle this payday, but one that has an aluminum frame this time. I have been building bikes for 11 years and I was surprised that it did last that long. Anyway trust me on this one. If you buy one and don't like it just take it back and get your money back.

I bought a NEXT BreakPoint from wallmart its the more top end version downhill mountain bike. I ride with two friends who have a Cannondale and a Mongoose. Their bikes were about 1K more than mine yet the only benifit I can see is its a little lighter. But since I weight less it all evens out :) I would recommend a Next to anyone, I have taken it on rough courses and its still holding up. But the ppl who assembled it at wallmart suck! I had to realign the spokes and tighten a lot of crap. And as far as the gay community goes, doesnt it hurt when you go to sit down and the seat goes straight up ur ass? Yeah thats right faggots with ur big holes :)

      Dear Sweet Tonya,
I would love to really get to know you. You sound spuncky, yet soulful. I just know you have a smile that lights up the world. I can just imagine all your coworkers fighting over you at the gift exchange. You are the pick of the litter.

My turn ons are honest open smiles and puppy dogs. My turn offs are poor fashion tastes and running out of Mr. Bubble. If you would leave your Daddy's number, I would like to ask his permision to escourt you to the county fare. Afterwards, we could go to a romantic, magical, and secluded area to drink champagne and eat cucumber sandwiches. Then I would like to look into your eyes, take your hand in mine, and chop it off with a meat cleaver, and smear your face with moose excriment. Then I would like to take you home to meet my family.

I am a 13 year old mountain biker. I may not know as much about the sport as some of you do but I bought a Next 26 inch 18-speed mountain bike and it was a piece of crap. The gears wouldn't shift and the chain kept jumping off for no reason. I took it back to Wal-Mart and luckily they let me return it for a different bike. My new bike is a roadmaster but im saving up for a schwin. Next is crap as far as my old bike.

      Brent,
Did you assemble your Next or was it assembled by WalMart? Also, was the derailer adjusted right? I was just looking at the Next today and thinking about buying one. How do you like your Roadmaster?

      Thanks

I think this JAg's message says it all --"was it assembled by walmart????" I just bot a NEXT mountain bike ($160 w tax) and its an aluminum lightweight shimano equiped deal and i like it. But the first thing i did when i brought it home was to R-E-A-D the owners manual and make sure that all the bolts, screws, fasteners and working assemblies were in proper adjustment--and of course they weren't thanks to the walmart flunkies who put it together. It's not a bike i would use to go down Mt. Everest but for general use it is perfect. If you want a true do-all mountain bike you better
have the $$$ for a full frame suspension disc brake bike made of aluminum...use your heads people.

i just bought three next bikes for my family .
my son, my wife and myself.
the bikes come with a lifetime frame and fork garantee. [sp]
thats a big plus. and wal mart will take them back if you arent satisfied. (save your receipts).
the bikes were fully assembled. but they did need some tuning on the gears. and brakes. i also had to tighten up a pedal on my sons. it actually came off.
maintenance is something you are going to have to do on a bicycle regardless of the purchase price. for instance if you have been riding your bike for very long. you might notice the spokes starting to loosen up. or a wobble developing in your rims. its not time to get a new rim. its time to get the ones you have tuned. if you have patience and a spoke tuner. you can do it yourself.
for the money i think its a pretty good deal.
