  • Morro Bay State Park - #MorroBayStatePark

Socal - San Luis Obispo County - Morro Bay NickNames: #MorroBayStatePark

To get to Morro Bay State Park form San Luis Obispo, get on Highway 1 headed North. Drive approximately 10-12mile and take the first turn off into Morro Bay, I belive it is Occonor Way. Make A left onto Occonor and travel about 2 miles. The trailhead is on the left hand side of the road. trailhead parking is ample and can fit about 10 cars. The terrain at the park consists of primarily twisting single track without any really technical section although there are a few. there are about ten to fifteen miles of trails, which can be made into many different and interesting loops. I highly reccomend these trails for those people who are going on a training ride and would like to simulate race conditions or to someone who just wants to out for a fun ride. It is also a good place to take beginner riders because of the varrying technical sections and loops. Enjoy the ride.

    • Trail UpdateMorro Bay State Park-Went and rode this place twice. The first time (8/19) I was with my 9yr old son and brother-in-law.
We road for about 8 miles. In one spot the mosquitos were realy bad. I got about 6 bites.
We went back to ride it again. (8/21) This time we had on bug repelant. The ride offered some great single track through out the park with some awsome views.
You realy can't get lost there. There is one mountain range that seperates the two parking areas. If you wind up on the wrong side, there is a trail that goes in between them.
To get there though just follow the signs to Montanta De Oso park off of the 1. I beleive the exit is Los Oso. There are two places to park. The firt on is kind of hidden as you are going to quick to see it and it is just after a curve in the road. The second one is just before you cross over a bridge. They are both on your left side heading in just after the turn off to the back side of Morro Bay. If you come to a traffic light you missed it. TURN AROUND!

    • Trail UpdateMorro Bay State Park-My wife and I rode there last weekend--the previous reports pretty much describe what's there. The trailheads are off of South Bay Blvd., about a half mile from Turri Road. Maps are posted at both. You can create a wide number of loops from the various trails; most are hardpack. Ticks were a problem for me (I picked off about a dozen) while mosquitos and biting flies feasted on my wife--probably from the nearby wetlands. Wear your repellent to enjoy the ride more.

    • Trail UpdateEl Morro Canyon Trail-Morro Park is a GREAT place to ride. Spectactular views of the Pacific ocean and lush canyon sides are plentiful as you spin through the park. There is nice climbing and phenomenal singletrack. If you are a rider that doesn't like to climb for 2 hours and then desend for 40 minutes then El Morro Park is for you. Throughout the ride you are constanly riding up and down, all around the canyon. If your in the area, you should definitely check this little mt. biking haven out!! Watch out for the snakes and rabbits!!

    • Trail UpdateMorro Bay State Park-I rode there today (late April '99), and while the trails were fun, the ticks were not! I've never seen so many ticks in one place in my life! I must have picked two dozen of the nasty arachnids off my legs in a single hour! What do these things eat when they can't get mountain bikers?! If you go there this time of year, wear tightly cuffed long pants of some kind. Otherwise, you're nothing but tick-bait!
