Gawd Sean, nice pic and the Newcastle is always a nice beer to fall back on, if there's nothing else available. We had a BevMo open up here in Palmdale and man, what a selection! They had the Ballast Point 'Big Eye IPA', which is heavily dry-hopped. We also picked out a new beer to try out; Port Brewing's 'Old Viscosity' ale. The Old Viscosity was a superb surprise. A well-aged ale, that's spent a lot of time in bourbon barrels and a 10% alcohol content!. And then try the Moylan's double IPA!

T'was very good after a long hot ride in the Shadow Mountains yesterday afternoon. 95 degree heat and zero shade! Rode the 05' Stumpjumper hardtail. The stock bike comes with a Shimano MH-525 hub on the rear and a so-so Specialized Stout hub on the front. Laced to so-so Mavic 317's. Add a Chris King hubset, tied to Mavic 819's and does that bike friggin fly! The stock 'deore' pig crankset and Shimano slug BB, was swapped out for a FSA carbon crank, with a titanium BB, that I had gotten used. Dropped over a pound and a half and now the XL framed Stumpy, weighs in at 24.2 pounds! And that's with LX shifters and XT derrailuers, running heavy tubeless tires (but the Kenda Smallblock's roll so-ooo fast!). Total transformation from a budget sleeper bike to a race ready hardtail.

First time I tried Newcastle. Pretty good I think. Goes well with Mt House freeze dried Teriyaki Chicken and Rice. YUM!

Drinking, picture taking, and riding/hiking are no way to go through life, my son!

I did. I picked my own route too. I moved up the west side of the basin below the north face. Then I went on snow up the north face to 12,000'. I got off the snow to climb some sketchy class 3 for about 150'. Then I was forced back onto the snow. I continued up the shute to the right of the summit to ~12,300'. The last 200' was on the NW ridge. Fun. Spooky on the snow. I had a dinner plate sized flake go rolling by me. I went down the NW ridge and then followed the gully to Lower Golden Trout Lk.
