Base camp for training in the San Bernardino Mtns?
I would like to spend the month of April training in the San Bernardino area. I have no reason to be in or near town; I just thought the San Bernardino mountains may be a nice, new place to train. Can anyone recommend a good campground or RV resort? Or at least a town, near which I can search for a campground? Ideally, I could head out for a MTB ride or ~50-mile road ride right from the campground.

Thanks for your time!
Krista

Running Springs is a small town right at the 'crestline' of the San Bernardino Mts.

You can find info and other links here

    Good luck!

I'd go up Highway (intersects I-10 at Redlands) and camp around there. There are a lot of campgrounds along that road.
Also, there are a lot of roads to be ridden. If you want to go mtn biking, lots of singletrack awaits you. Best thing is that while it may get cold up there, it's not as cold as Big Bear.
    See ya at the races.

      I'd go up Highway...CA-38, maybe?

Thanks Dr. I accidentally deleted the name of that highway. Yes the 38.

Highway 38 as others have mentioned, has some areas to camp. I think there's camping at Jenks Lake and/or Barton Flats - lots of trails and close to the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Also try Serrano campground which is on the north side of Big Bear Lake - central access to lots of trails, and unless we get major El Nino snow, by April Snow Summit should be open to bikes. Also Dogwood (my favorite) which is right off Hwy 18 about 2 miles from Lake Arrowhead, maybe 10 miles from Running Springs.
