I have to say WOW because of the sharp swing in reviews of this shop. I don't understand the bad reviews because all of my experiences with them have been great. I frequent this shop every time we are visiting Maui and I have had nothing but great experiences with the shop employees and even spent some time talking with the owner on one of my visits. They rent great bikes, provide good advice for rides and take care of small things that happen to bikes that are associated with normal wear and tear. I didn't think their prices were exorbitant for a small shop and I purchased a jersey, gloves and water bottles. I frequent many bike shops in Nor Cal and I would put South Maui Bike Shop up against any of them for service, fairness and price. When I rent a bike I go into it with the expectation that if I break something I am responsible and if something minor happens due to normal wear and tear the bike shop will take responsibility. This has been my experience with them and I plan to rent from them on our next trip to Maui and I will likely buy some more of their products to replace my old stuff. I like this place!

This shop is actually one of the great finds on Maui. The service is great, although they are very busy, a good sign right? The rentals that my friends have got here are top notch Trek Full Carbon and half carborn, these guy's really have pride in their work. I have looked elsewhwere on the island and the selection is slim and the bikes don't measure up. I think the prices are very fair as I have rented in simular resort areas and paid a lot more for less bike. I have had these guy's service my personal bike and the parts bill was fair and the labor bill was more than fair. They truely are Maui's Friendliest shop!! I recomend them without hesitation, Howard

I live here on Maui and I despise this shop. I first tried to order and buy a bike from them a few years ago, a Trek. They wouldn't match the price of the Trek Dealer on Oahu (who had the bike in stock), or make any sort of arrangement with the other dealer. And, I'd have to wait 3 weeks for the bike to arrive. I explained that I desperately needed the bike within the month, and that I was relying on the bike to come in. I left a $200 deposit and my phone # and info. Three and a half weeks later, and I still hadn't heard from them. I went in there and they told me oh, uh, we havent placed an order yet. It'll be another week or two before we do. In short, another 5 week wait for my bike. A 2 month wait! I said no way, and i wanted my $ back. Then they tried to tell me that the deposit was non-refundable! Even though they hadn't even ordered the damn bike! After I had to raise my voice quite a bit more than i had to and ask for the owner's name and home phone, they gave me my $ back. Now, i feel uncomfortable just riding past the shop on my daily ride. I went in there the other day when i lost a glove to get a new pair, and the selection was crappy and overpriced, compared to any other shop on Maui. But most noticeable was that the employees (Both that I saw) were rude to 3 customers in a row, acting like they were being terribly inconvenienced to explain bike rental policies. In short, go to another shop if possible. I recommend West Maui Cycles in Lahaina or Maui Cyclery in Haiku - both good shops with quality goods/services

I disagree with guy who said negative things about this shop! Every time my kids have gotten flats on the way home from school - they have been so very nice and fast and have fixed it for me! Yes, it can get expensive, but if I had gotten the kiawe proof tires to start with !! lol... Anyways, they are great and polite, and have some fantastic deals on bikes with tune-ups and flat fixes built in to the deal!

I rented a road bike to ride up Haleakala. On return they tried to scam me for extreme wear on rear rim while descending. I didn't ride down! The rim was dangerously worn and they are leaving it that way so they can charge YOU if you ride down the mountain. DON'T USE THIS SHOP UNTIL THEY STOP RUNNING THIS UNETHICAL SCAM.

I've used this bike shop for 5 years, not by choice but because they are the only shop in Kihei. I've found their work satisfactory, but their prices outrages and their staff unhelpful. They refuse to give advice on any part of bike maintinence or repair, only to say..."Bring it in for a tune-up and we'll take care of it". If you have a way to transport you bike I recommend going to one of the other bikes shops on the island.
