 schwinn odometer reading wrong
I have a question.
I purchased a Schwinn Bike Odometer for our mountain bikes. I set them according to the settings in the instruction papers.
Our problem is that the mileage is not matching what we have clocked with the car. The cars odometer shows the first leg of my trail is 15 miles. However, After I ride the trail, The bike odometer is showing far less mileage. Does anyone have an explanation for this anomaly?
We have purchased 2 of these monitors, Put one on my sons bike,as well as mine. They both show the same as the other, But not the same as our car's odometers. We have checked the mileage in two different vehicles, on many occasions.

I am wondering, And this could be a silly question, As I am new to cycling distances, Could bike miles be considered a different measure than a normal mile?

I am training for my first triathlon coming up in June 2006, And I am trying to learn everything I possibly can.
I would appreciate any information or suggestions that you can possibly offer.

Thankyou very much,
John C.

It's possible you could have configured the tire/wheel settings incorrectly. I had the same problem with my odometer when I first purchased it. I took it to my local bike shop and had them configure it for me. Worked fine after that. If you find that your wheel/tire settings are correct, you might think about exchanging it for one that works. :) Keep in mind, the mileage will not be exact...but should be very close. Good luck!

Good catch...no wonder the Sierra Club hates MTBers.

We'll take that as a compliment.
