 Trek Liquid 20 '03
Does anyone have an opinion on buying a used bike from a major bike shop? There is a used trek Liquid 20 from 03 that is on sale for $900. It doesn't look to have too much wear on it. It seemed fine on a routine ride around the parking lot but I don't have much experience on a full suspension. My main concerns would be the shocks and whether they've been ridden too much and have lost their spring. Any suggestions? From what I can tell - this is a good deal for a bike that would be sold new between $1500 and $2000, but like I said - I'm unsure of how much or how hard it's been ridden and the hidden consequences on the bike. Thanks

A shock or a fork can get a rebuild and feel as good as new. The big thing you want to look at is the frame. Look for dents in the frame. There's no really great way to be sure a frame hasn't had a ton of abuse, but be sure to check out the welds for any signs of stress or cracking in the paint which could indicate some issues with the frame integrity. Check the pivots for wear and ask if the bushings (or if applicable, bearings) have been replaced and if so, when. Take a look at the bike from behind. Any issues with the rear triangle being misaligned or bent?

Check out the specs on how the bike came OEM. If there are any aftermarket parts, consider whether they were replaced as a simple upgrade, a crash replacement, or simply worn out.
