 Pedal Question
Okay, here's the scoop: After a many year layoff, I'm getting back into riding. Am looking to go clipless after years of using clips and straps. I've narrowed the choice down to Shimano 646's or Crank Brothers Mallet C's. What do you suggest and why. I guess I ride mostly technical XC.

I have the 646's on my FR bike, seems like overkill for anything XC unless you have to have a platform. Candys... never tried'em, but again, unless you need a platform you might as well save a pound or so and go with something more XC'ish.

    $1.380

I like the idea of having a platform in case I can't/don't want to clip in. I suppose that once I get used to the whole clipless idea, I might move to something more minimalist.

If you have rubber soled shoes, it makes it alot easier to clip in, even with small pedals. They work well even without clipping in too.

My road shoes are hard plastic, so if you're not quite in the correct position to clip in, your foot will slip off the pedal when you push down, and you'll slam down on the top tube. Not fun!
