 FlatBars vs RaiserBars
I've always use a Flatbar Handle in my hardtail, and even now that I bought a new full suspension, which come with a Flatbar, I been thinking to change for a RaiseBar (2"-2.5"?)
But I don't really now if there are any advantages in doing this...I ride cross country and lots of claiming, no extreme DH or jumping, any suggestion?

Man, are you gonna hear a lot of crap on this subject...

    Here's my crap:
--typical riser bars are different from typical flat bars on two significant aspects, not including the "rise": risers are usually wider and risers usually have more sweep. Those two aspects of the risers and flats are the key to "fit" that you should focus on.
--not counting sweep and width, the "riser feature" is just a way to get a higher bar position without using the rise of the stem to do it.
--risers are currently also trendy and cool. This is partly because of the width/sweep utility, and also because it looks less "Boardwalk Poseur" to have a really high bar position if you can hide it with a riser bar, and finally, because Zapata Espinoza says they're cool, and all (every single one without any possible exception) riser bar owners believe Zap is the ultimate authority on fashion, personal style and MTBs.

That said, check them out on bikes in the shop, your buddies' bikes, etc... If the fit works for your riding style, why not join the crowd.

Well going with a 2-2.5 I think would be overkill for typical xc use. The rise will cause the front to wonder on steep cimbs. If you really want to try a riser I would go no higher than a 1.5 on your xc bike. The wider bar will make the bike feel more stable, and turn slower. It is also a confidence builder on the steep descents when you can get your weight back, and youre not always feeling like youre going to endo.

Thinking of doing something similar, you can lose a little weight if you go carbon-fiber. I would go 'XC' rise (~1.5"). I thought the 'rise' actually helped dampen vibrations, any comments?

Flat bars with bar ends all the way. That way you got raised position for those climbs, and you can hunker down a little more when youre going for speed

I did change for a 1.5 carbon fiber and so far I'm very please with this change. I feel more control in tight maneuvers and even going uphill (I tough I will miss the end bars) but so far evrything seems to be working better of I anticipated.
