 What about whisk(e)y?
Beer's great, but now that the weather's getting a little chilly, what's your favorite flask filler for trailside warm-ups or apres-ride fireside follies?

BTW, I spelled it "whisk(e)y" to accomodate every country's good spirits, from Suntory to Single Malts.

And just for whatever, let's hear how you like it: neat, rocks, water or mixed.

Not much of a whiskey or scotch guy, but Southern Comfort with a twist of lime balances the manly whiskey drinker with the gay foofy drinker in me.

    Lagavulin...very nice.

Single-batch bourbon: (in order of preference), Basil Hyden's, Bookers, Bakers

served with a splash of ice-cold water...

single-malt scotches are always welcome in my holiday stocking as well

I went to a Whiskey tasting last year at Joe's Garage in Tustin. It was sponsored by Johnnie Walker Black label.
We came in to tables laden with appetizers & various whiskey drinks served by attentive servers.
After spending a little while working on our glow, they pulled back the curtains to reveal the tasting tables set among the vintage automobiles.
Each seat had a map of Scotland, with 5 areas highlighted, accompanied by a shot glass.
A guy came out in a kilt that was raised on one of Scotland oldest distilleries.
He proceeded to educate us on various Scottish distilleries & regions, following each talk by a sample of that distillery’s single malt draught.
He was accompanied by a slide show & music, and spoke of the high and low notes in each - Band-Aid, smoke, peat, etc.
    We sampled:
    Cardhu
    Talisker
    Oban
    Lagavulin
The finale was a large sample of Johnnie Walker Black label, which was blended with all four.
We left with nice parting gifts, and a healthy buzz.
Now JW would not be my choice and this was clearly a slick bit of Marketing, but it was still pretty great.
    The Oban was my favorite.

I'll take mine neat or with a splash of cold sparkling water.

Did you say, "A guy came out in a kilt that was raised" ?
And everyone was high on scotch? Whew...just checking.

Unless I'm pouring it into a sierra cup with a bag of tea in it, over a fire in Sespe Wilderness, I want nothing to do with that fire water.

Ever try Corazon? The blanco is insane, the anejo and reposado are quite incredible too.

You're absolutely right. Corazon is great stuff. Cool bottle, too. I love the clean, no-oak taste of a really good blanco.

I'm no tequilla connoisseur, but I've tried a few of the good shooting varieties over the years. I tried La Familia last Saturday night. You guys are right, it is unbelievable! Tastes more like a smoooooooth bourbon than a tequilla. They served it in a brandy snifter, which is totally appropriate... it is to be sipped and savored.

The restaurant is La Paz on Las Virgenes, right down the road from Malibu Creek State Park. So now you know where to go if there's not enough food at the Bday Bash 2004 ;-) I recommend La Familia, a margarita rocks, and the BBQ goat (chiva). Mmmmmm... life is good!

Cuervo's Reserva de la Familia is a featured item at COSTCO this year, along with several other super-premium tequilas, if you're into that kind of thing.

Good tip on La Paz, by the way. Oscar is the man.

I like this kind of assignment. Haven't tried Corralejo, although I've always admired their cool bottles. I'll try it and report back.
