WANTED: Austro Daimler Vent Noir ll
Hi,
I recently got the itch to ride again after about a 15 year hiatus.
I grew up in a tiny midwest town with about 2000 people. I had a daily
newspaper route, and was the paperboy of the only town bike shop owner.
He only knew about Schwinn and Concord bikes and that was fine with me.
I started riding my paperbike to further towns, even cities, 20 miles away to see what other bike shops had.
Once I saw some bikes like nothing I had ever seen. But as a paperboy with lawn jobs and
shovelling snow in winters, those strange shining beauties were far from reach for
a kid like me. I saw magazines and posters of races in Europe, way before Greg Lemond brought
those far climes to our imaginations. I wished I could get one of those bikes someday, then life intervened
and those dreams got stacked under other piles of endeavor and accomplishments.
Well, it's been a long time. Now I'm looking again. And I recently found out the name of the bike I wanted.
It's an Austro Daimler Vent Noir ll, must have been around the late 70's/early 80's.
If anyone has a lead on how to find one of these, I'd like to get one and stoke out that little kid buried back
there under all those other things that took this much time to dig back through and take care of. Any help appreciated.
