Road Message Board

 Paging Scarry
You racing this weekend? STP and I are just going to race Rim Nordic cause it's close. Hill climb and short track races on Saturday and XC course on Sunday. Rather go to Downieville but easier to take the kids to the local races.

BTW: e-me if you want to ride sometime. Also, hoping you know some good trails in the Tehachapi's for an after work ride.

BTW#2: your pop said you're a real a-hole. I think he was kidding?!

Hey F...I was jammed this weekend with poorly scheduled family events (they didn't work around MY race schedule LOL). Hope your racing went well! That comment sounds just like my pop! The Tehachapi's are a hit and miss situation as far as riding goes. Most of the trails are on private land and/or are equestrian only (unless you KNOW somebody and then you can get the go-ahead). So, the riding is sketchy at best, though I HAVE been tempted a lot lately to do some poaching...the best bet in this heat is to head towards Alta Sierra or higher. We have a couple of loops we do up there that are a bit different than the regular Just Outstanding Trail (which is SWEET in it's own right). In the fall we're planning a semi supported ride starting at Keyesville, hooking up with the Kern Canyon Trail to Delonegha Bridge, heading down river on the Wildflower/Kern Canyon Trail to a trail that hooks up (via a STEEP 1.5 mile 1800 ft elevation gain hike-a-bike ish jaunt) to the Badger Gap trail. We plan on heading back towards Keyesville from there, either heading all the way back when the trail hooks up with the KC Trail again, or finishing back at the Bridge...somewhere between 30-50 ish miles (ALL singletrack) and something like 6000-9000 ft of climbing...I'll post details when we finalize plans, etc...

Glad you had a fun filled family weekend... my racing went ok - couldn't quite match STP this weekend but got 2nd overall in the stage race. Rim Nordic course is a blast - the most fun I've ever had on a race course in So Cal. Lotsa tight twisty ST through the trees and boulders. Keyesville sounds great, haven't been up there for a couple years so it's about time. I know a few people that live near Stallion Springs so maybe they can help get access - I'll let you know.

BTW, Your dad's actually pretty cool to work with

Hey FFW... So when are you racing again? I'm hoping to get up to Big Bear for Amcup #3, but it's the day after my 40th birthday and my wife has a party planned. Maybe I'll only have one beer?! I'm thinking of heading up into the canyon to get some altitude this weekend. I'll let you know if anything is in the works after we ride tonight (our regular heat ride starts at 6pm if you're ever in the area on a Wednesday evening). I think I'll be doing a Rim Nordic series next year, I've heard so many good things about their organization, I'm going to have to check it out...ciao!

I'm racing Brian Head XC next weekend, Rim Nordic on Aug 21, NORBA finals at Mammoth and probably Mt SAC in October. All the Am cups and most of the State races fell on days I already had commitments. May be able to do Fall Classic though.

Where do your 6PM rides start at? Since I work at Mojave airport, I've just been riding out along the 58 or up to the windmills and back on the road bike and sometimes riding the mt bike on the dirt roads around the airport. Would be great to hook up sometime after work (I get off at 5) and do a good mtb ride.

Happy 40th! Don't worry, you won't start feeling old until your 43rd or so and then it's a very slippery downhill slope ;-) So have 3 or 4!

say it ain't so FFW! I just hit the 43 plateau and although I don't feel old, I've been fighting that slippery slope for a while now. biggrin

Hey there F...I'm headed to Mammoth for another butt kicking in September as well. Our regular Wed night ride is in Bakersfield starting at Thorner School (I live in Bako and work in Tehachapi 3 days a week). I get off at about 6:30, I can bring the bike to work and meet you somewhere around/in Tehachapi if you'd like. So that slippery slope is what I've been feeling lately? HA! Wish I could head over to Brian Head, that should be lots of fun. Aren't those post work 58 rides a bitch in the wind?

Next week (and every 2nd week) my kids are with my ex so if you let me know what day is good and where to meet in Tehachapi... email me if you like.

Hey DS, the getting older thing isn't so bad but recovering from stuff gets tougher (races, training, beer swilling and dating to name a few). I think I'm still as good at all the above as I was at 42 but because they are all currently solo activites, I may be biased ;-)
