Takara Grand Touring 12-speed
I own a Takara Grand Touring road bike, built around 1980, does anyone know anything about these Japanese bikes and is it worth anything? Posted by Scott34 a 34 year old riding a Takara from RI on 04/20/01

I had one (good bike and light). Put a new handle bar on it, called it a Commuter Bike and got $75 for it. Posted by GramPa. a 57 year old Weekend Rider riding a Mongoose - Trek. from Sun Valley, Nv on 04/22/01

I also have a takara grand touring 18 speed. I bought it in Wichita, KS. in 1981 or 82. Not a bad bike, but not a valuable commodity. It is to outdated for a serious tour rider, and it isn't a collectors item. post it on e-bay and you will find out what people think it is worth. I have updated the shifters and crank in mine and still ride it. Posted by Tdrotman a 54 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a 8 bikes, different brands from Salina, OK on 05/03/01

I own a Takara bike. My wife is forcing me to buy a new road bike. Is it possible to sell my old Takara? Posted by C E Hornbuckle a 64 year old Die-hard Enthusiast riding a Takara from Shenandoah, Iowa 51601 on 07/06/01

Man, that is tough. I can't believe your ol' lady is making you buy a new set of pipes. The next thing you know she will be "forcing" you to buy tickets to the Final Four, and "making" you buy a new ski boat. You should put your foot down before she "forces" you into baby-siting strippers.
Seriously, you should keep your sweet ride. It will never fetch what it is worth to you. Can you have too many bikes? Posted by Big Foot a 42 year old Road Warrior riding a a damn big one from Oklahoma City, OK on 07/06/01

yes, you can have too many bikes. I live in a not-that-small house, but I also have a couple dozen 10 speeds, 6 or 7 MTB's, scooters, tricycles, steel championship downhill bigwheels a pedal car (plastic, not ti) and the like. I say I have too many bikes. yeah, I know that most of them aren't really bikes, but I think they count if they have pneumatic tires and they were upgraded with bike parts. I rode one from Lincoln City Oregon to Hampton Beach New Hampshire. If you don't want it I'd buy it from you.
