I'm thinking about entering the race. Has anybody done it in the past? What is the course like? What about the level of the competion? Any info would be apreciated. Posted by Pilas a 34 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a Cannondale Hardtail/ Schwinn Rocket from Irvine on 10/14/02

Re: Mt Sac Fall Fat tire Classic
SUPER cool race. Not a severely technical race, and too much of the race seems to run through cow pastures. But at least one nice steap technical climb. Lots of room for passing in most parts, some of the climbing is tough mentally just because the trails are a little rough due to cow traffic. Last year the folks that put it on (the welding club) made kick-ass metal trophies that were more works of art than trophies. Level of competition was significantly less than the series up in Big Bear or Rim Nordic, but it has more of a local race atmosphere which I think makes it very fun. Its all about ridin' bikes. Last year they also had a band playing afterwards. Posted by Danbu a 28 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a Sugar from Riverside on 10/16/02

Thanks for the detail info. I'll probably go ride around the area this weekend. At least get a feel of the the terrain so it won't be such a surprise at race day. Posted by Raymond a 37 year old Weekend Warrior on 10/16/02

Re: Mt Sac Fall Fat tire Classic
I'm going to enter the Sport category. I have started racing this year as a Beginner in the Rim Nordic and Big Bear series. I was wondering what the approximate racing time would be, since the Sports category does 3 laps. How fast is the course? Anyone know when you can preride it? Posted by ZG a 32 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a Sugar 2 & an R F X from Sherman Oaks on 10/15/02
According to the aplication form, you can't preride the course this year. Did you race there last year? If so, how was it? Posted by Pilas a 34 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a Cannondale Hardtail/ Schwinn Rocket from Irvine on 10/16/02

Re: Mt Sac Fall Fat tire Classic
I haven't raced there.
To me, "There is no night pre-ride event this year", means there's is usually a traditional night time preride, which isn't occurring this year.
So, wondering if it's available on any day before the event to ride... although, with a six mile course, preride-warmup can be the same thing.

I have done this race...good course. It's a fundraiser, so don't let that check bounce. For non-professionals, they put on a an excellent race. Unless there is rain between now and then, it will be a dry and dusty course. The tuffest climb is steep but short. The course is 100% rideable -- if you have the cardio and strength. Arrive early and enjoy the race atmosphere; stay late for the raffles and enjoy the music. In the past INCYCLE was on site to provide minor mechanical assistance, free of charge. Unfortunately, like most races, the beginner class will be loaded with sandbaggers. Posted by Jimm a 47 year old Cross-Country Rider riding a GT-XCR/LE on 11/01/02

Re: Mt Sac Fall Fat tire Classic
I have done this race 3 times. It is well organized, inexpensive, fun, has the coolest awards and a decent race course. The competition in the sport class is as tough as any bigbear/nordic race. The loop is about 6 miles which makes for good spectator participation. I am always surprised by the good turnout despite a total lack of promotion.
The course has a little of everything, except for long climbs or decents.
