Does anybody have any info on Vertical PK7
I have never done any mountain biking and I want to start out with a inexpensive bike. This bike runs about 150.00 at Costco.

No, but here's what happened to one $150 Vertical bicycle last year:

Good luck on the research--link to the distributor appears below.

I bought my PK7 3 days ago. It's really a fun bike. I'm extremely happy with it's performance considering the "cheap" price. I've ridden bikes that I liked a lot less, but were A LOT more expensive. Plus, it sure looks cool.

But, while riding across town, 3rd gear broke into little pieces. I've only ridden the bike on the road thusfar, so it's not from wear and tear. Hopefully, it's just a defective part.

I own a Vertical PK7 the size of the wheels and the shocks make curbs and large bumps easy to ggo up. I'm not sure it would be to good for off-road trails though. If you crash the deraler is open to danger. It is loaded with Japanese Shamano (I'm not sure if thats how its spelled) parts though. The brakes are VERY GOOD! Twenty-one speeds with a huge range. I'm glad to have it.

i have a pk7 and a xl3, both are very nice, but the pk7 is only good for, not too fast on road type stuff, seeing as its lower to the ground than most other vertical bikes. not to mention the shocks are much softer than the xl3's.

Yes. It's a rugged hell raiser. I won mine at a baseball raffle. It's heavy and blazes down hill in rugged terrain. The PK7 also does well up hill. I don't think you could find a better MTB for the price. The bike doesn't make the rider. I've trashed two MTB's, including the frames. I am amazed at the durability of the PK7. I won't spend big bucks on An MTB again. The rider makes the bike.

Give me a break, the rider makes the bike eh? what a bunch O crap! thats like saying a great chef can make a gourmet meal from Cup-o-Noodles. To take the example further, if all you have ever ate is Cup-o-Noodles how can you know that there is something better out there. Just like Mtn.biking, if you want a good experience you need good equipment. The rider makes the most difference, but not even Lance would ride a PK7 (on anything from a Dept. Store), not that he wouldn't be fast, he just has a desire for a better tasting ride!

Its a piece of crap and in this case you get what you pay for. Save up some more coin and only buy from a bike shop not a department store.

The bike isn't too bad. I had some trouble with the front deraileur at first but it just needs some fine tuning. The frame is sort of heavy. The suspension is a little soft. You can change the the rear suspension, but I don't think you can change the front. The bike is a little heavy but otherwise I like it. It's great for around town. I haven't tried taking it on any trails yet. It's regularly about $120 but on sale this week at Target for $88. Might want to invest in a better seat. The original is pretty bad.

I just brought a 26" PK7 and there was also a 24" version but I am not sure it was the PK7 model or something called AL6000 it looks the same just a little smaller. Heck for $88 I figure if it breaks just throw it away and get a new one!! I just did a quick ride on the 26" PK7 and it seems pretty decent!

I did a little research before purchasing this bike. Dynacraft who distributes this bike had problems with a couple of other bikes in the past (front suspension would break apart resulting in a recall). This was in 1999, and no problems since. I have rode the bike a dozen times or so on my property in Iowa and no problems so far although the seat is a little uncomfortable. I do believe you get what you pay for, but if your just lookin for a little fun and not competing its a fine bike.

Actually found several recalls on this brand of bike but no problems with mine yet. I do ride it pretty hard but am always maintaining it, i.e. lube, tighten fasteners and inspecting before hard rides.

      •  Re: Does anybody have any info on Vertical PK7
I have ridden many a bike. I have also beaten the heck out of many a bike. For 88 dollars this bike is a good deal, I am 6'4" and at first the distance from the seat to the pedal was too short and I wasn't able to completly extend my legs, which is was hard on the knees. As I metioned I haver broken a lot of bikes, incluiding a specialized and a giant. I had a seat post from a 27" bike and I put it on the Pk7 to icrease the distance I talked about before.
This bike will take curbs, as long as you lighten up on the front wheel. $88 means, you can be mean to it, not worry about it when you lock it up, and you won't feel so bad when it gets dirty or scratched. You get what you pay for.

          Hi,

I just would like some clues about adjusting the bike to my size. I am also 6'4" and I cant find a not expensive bike that I can ride confortably. I want a simple model as the pk7. What did you do? What parts I can get to have a better ride?

          Thanks.

To customize it, you'd need at least bars and a stem, seat and seatpost. You'd spend more money than the bike's worth.

BURN THE HUFFY dont buy a verticle either and skip looking at a motiv the three worst bikes they mention on this site look at a giant or you can go for a little better and get a trek or really good are cannondale scalples and jekyles or for a hardtrail the f series

dont buy it my friend has one and it is the biggest heap i have ever seen. Dont buy it I would buy a huffy before that. it is cheaply built and saw it for sale at target for 88 bucks. Look at buying it there if you want it that much. He just rides it around town and he paid 200 for it. You may even want to lok at a magna full suspension. the thing creaks when he gets on it and weighs only aout 100 lbs but it may be ebcause he doesnt lubricate it at all (lubricat thats a great word). Any way you may want to look at a motiv because they are not the best bikes in the world but are a better quality than the verticle and just a little more expensive. If you plan on doing serious off roading look at a little more expensive bike like a giant or specialized

I bought one at Target Aug. 2002 for $150 and it has been a great bike. I have ridden several hundred miles on it and never had a problem. It is very comfortable and rides great. I ride mostly in city to my job and on urban trails, a couple light offroad trails, and the beach. In town, curbs and bumps aren't even felt. I was leary about buying a MB from a dept. store and this one caught my eye. It looked cool as hell, the silver paint looks like brushed aluminum, like a Delorean car. I was prepared to spend hundreds of dollars more on a bike and got this for $150. Everyone thinks I spent a fortune on it.

You said it looks cool, but remember that looks arent always what they seem. I could make the junkiest bike look sweet, but when you tried to get on it, it would fall apart.

The PK7 is a pretty good bike for its price, if you dont do any major trailriding or if you dont take it too hard on it, it should be a good bike for you.

I'm even looking at the PK7, I had a mongoose MGX DXR but the back wheel axle broke, bent the back fork (i guess that's what its called), and messed up my chain derailur so I am now looking for a new bike too.
(any recommendation thats under $175 would be nice)

Don't worry about chain tension. The derailleur cage will take care of it. BTW - Don't race the PK7. If you try to race it downhill, you'll kill yourself. If you try to race XC, you probably won't be competitive because that vertical is a bit on the extremely heavy side.

I have had a PK7 for about 2 years now. I have done trail and road riding, also hiking trails not really for bikes. Performance was good on the trails on all types of terrain and over logs, but feels heavy and sluggish on-road. Still o.k. it is after all, a mountain bike. After a few adjustments it rides nicely. I love the Gripshifters. I would expect a smoother crank, a more comfortable seat, and a longer seatpost from a more expensive bike. Well worth $150. Oh yea, it does look cool.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you want to get into mountain biking, borrow a bike and see if you enjoy riding.

If you do, and plan to ride more than once a month, spend the bucks on a decent bike, not a wannabe $150 bike from Costco. Why would you want to torture yourself with that?

A decent bike will make all the difference in your enjoyment, and gaining the skills, of mountain bike riding.

When it comes to mountain bikes, you get what you pay for.

Hey guys! It looks like a long list and no web site for the PK7 vertical ! I was a proud owner of the mountain 24", It is an aluminum frame w/steel swing arm, but well balanced from the front shock forks, a 21 speed unique from a huge market, assuming under $500, cause of rim and hub assembly's, but with a few after markets like Kalin handlebars w/bar extensions, an alum.water bot., holder, a good seat, this bike broke necks(sexy), noticed mostly by the tubular half moon. welded in gusset's that encased the black, gold, and alum. hand adjust., rear shock. I;m 6 foot and this bike performed like a high end mountain, acted like a 20", looked like my girlfriend, and spanked everything i ever owned, i found it in morrisville,...mine got stolen in Trenton N.J.,,will someone help find another ?
