 Motiv RockPoint Full Suspension?
I'm looking to see if anyone knows anything about these bikes or the manufacturer, Motiv Sports Inc. Are they O.K. for someone just trying to get into biking, or are they pieces of shi&?

"Pieces of s$%^" is all relative to the type of riding your going to do, "Motiv" is a Costco OEM made in Taiwan bike with the worst possible components you could get on a mountain bike not to mention heavier than most mopeds.
If you are getting this bike for mountain biking, save your money and go see yuor local bike shop and by a nice hardtail Aluminum frame from Trek/GT/Specialized that you could probably buy starting around $250.00.
But if your getting the bike just the fart around the streets and not really ride than I guess it's fine, remember.... you get what you pay for and it's hard to get much for $149.00, this is specially true for bikes.
    Good luck on your purchase.

The Motiv bikes work fine. I bought one at price club years ago and it has lasted many rides without breaking. They are not top of the line but that will be reflected in the price. I recently updated to a Mongoose D50i aluminum full suspension again at Price club for $270. Again, I didn't want to shell out the dough for top of the line bikes at $1000+. I ride 3-4 times a week about 7-10 miles. My bike eats up the downhill but is a bit heavy (35 lbs.) compared to top end bikes (25-28 lbs.). Big deal. I don't race and I do ride and I do make it up the hill, many times ahead of others on more expensive equiptment. Many posers have nice equiptment but ride once a month. You said your just getting into riding so the bike you mentioned is a good starting point. WWW.MTB.COM has a good forum of riders rating their bikes. Check it out and good ridin'!

i have an old motiv sitting in the garage, truthfully when i didnt know any better, it was something to ride, a few months ago i went up to the near $1000 range and it is like night and day, if you are sure you will keep up with the sport, then i would say buy a better bike......
since getting better equiptment, i ride more, farther, and i believe better than i ever have, do some shopping around, for a $200 difference you may be surprised at whats out there, go to some biike stores and test a few units....
the best way to answer your own question is to ride some bikes, then ask specific questions about the components

Dbrad I'm a 32 year old Active Duty Air Force person in Clinton MD and I have the Motiv RockPoint 4130 a 1995 model and I love it, It was a great bike to start with and learn with. Motiv was a great company, I had a few problems with the crank and they replaced it with out asking any questions free of charge. I also had a problem with my brakes ( caused by me) and they replaced them as well. I just bought a Trek 4500 and had my first ride today and man I love this bike. Now I'm looking for someone to sell the Motiv to for about $100 bucks..... Bottom line Motiv has been a great company for me.. Any other questions just shoot me an e-mail.....a10hog44@hotmail.com.....

    Luke,
What grade did you drop out of school? You might consider spending a little less time in the saddle, and a little more time studying. I'm sure you are a bright young man; but reading your message, one is given the impression that you took one too many spills without a helmet.
