adjustable stem
I noticed there that ritchey makes an adjustable angled stem. It seems like it won't work because you put so much downward force at the adjustment point but at the same time it'd be nice to have if it works. anyone tried it? Posted by Kevincw01 a 27 year old on 08/19/07

Dont know if yer having with a stem with too much rise or not enough. Usually moving spacers do the trick. Or if yer having a stem with too much rise, do the thing Tinker Juarez does and reverse the stem. I have my bike stems reversed as well because I use the longest travel forks recommended and it helps with the climbing. A 10 degree or less rise stem w/ a 80 or 100mm travel fork and one 3/4" thick or less spacer located above the headset is usually perfect for most folks on XC bikes. Whatever you do, don't listen to goosey lucy. Trust me.
Depending on the kind of riding you're planning on doing, adjustable stems are an option. If you are doing hardcore DH, I'd stick with a one-piece heavy-duty stem. Either way, your best bet is to go to a reputable local bike store and ask the same question.
What mongoose is telling you to do can be very dangerous. It's great that he and Tinker Juarez are the reversed stem masters...but heed my advice. Go to a person who gets paid to work on bikes. Never take the advice of some idiot yahoo on the internet unless he's telling you to get the advice elsewhere based on safety.
