Jones Creek to Mitchell Lakes - Ride about 2.7 miles north on CR 201. You will see a trailhead for Jones Creek on the right. Begin a long singletrack ascent (about 1300 feet elevation change) until at mile 7 you come to a clearing where the Jones Creek trail ends. Take the Pinkerton-Flagstaff trail that goes to the right and into the trees. There is a short, steep climb and at mile 7.5 you will have good views of the Animas River Valley. For the next 2.1 miles, you will be riding along a ridge with several ups and downs until at mile 9.6 the trail takes a hairpin turn and goes east down a steep wide singletrack. Be careful here because the trail is rocky and loose. At mile 10.8 the trail turns into a 4-WD road. Continue downhill with caution because the trail is still rocky and loose in some sections as well as there may be 4-WD vehicles using the road. There are several trails that branch off of this 4-WD road, but stay on it until at mile 13.2, you will encounter the Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage railroad. Cross with caution. At mile 13.5, you will go through a tunnel that goes underneath Highway 550. Turn right at the paved road and take another right at the stop sign next to a KOA campground. Turn left onto Highway 550 at mile 13.9. Go about 3.4 miles and turn right onto CR 203. Be careful on Highway 550 because there is a lot of traffic; there's a good shoulder though. Turn right onto CR201 back to your car (about 1.3 miles uphill).
